The number of loans to households, financial and non-financial corporations, and non-profit institutions serving households grew by 1.4% year-on-year by the end of the second quarter of 2025, with their total value increasing by 14.2%, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said on its website on Thursday.

Loans to non-financial corporations reached 158,000 by the end of 2025’s second quarter, increasing by 7.6% on an annual basis. The total value of these loans rose to BGN 50.804 billion, up 8.7% year-on-year. Compared to the end of the previous quarter, the number of loans increased by 2.8%, and their total value grew by 1.6%.

The three economic activities with the largest share in the total amount of loans to the sector were trade (26.7%), manufacturing (20.8%) and real estate activities (12%). At the end of June 2025, loans exceeding BGN 1 million accounted for the largest share in the total amount of loans, at 75.7%.

Loans to financial corporations stood at 1,159, increasing by 15.9% year-on-year. Their total value reached BGN 8.998 billion, marking an 11.9% annual increase. Compared to the previous quarter, the number and total value of these loans grew by 2.6%. By the end of June 2025, loans exceeding BGN 1 million accounted for the largest share, representing 99.2% of total financial corporation loans.

Loans to households and non-profit institutions serving households grew by 1% year-on-year, reaching 2.887 million. Their total value increased by 20.8% annually to BGN 51.003 billion. At the end of June 2025, compared to the end of March 2025, the number of these loans decreased by 0.3%, while their value increased by 5.4%. Loans ranging from BGN 100,000 to BGN 250,000 held the largest share, making up 27.8% of the total loan amount.

The number of deposits held by households, financial and non-financial corporations, and non-profit institutions serving households increased by 1.4% year-on-year, with their total value rising by 10%.

Deposits of non-financial corporations stood at 654,700, increasing by 4.9% compared to the end of June 2024. At the end of the second quarter of 2025, their value went up by 6.1% year-on-year to BGN 46.939 billion. Compared to the end of March 2025, their number increased by 1.3% and their value by 0.4%.

At the end of June 2025, there were 8,221 deposits to the financial corporations sector, which was a 6.2% increase compared to the end of the same month in 2024. The total value of these deposits was BGN 4.456 billion, marking an annual increase of 30.5%. Compared to the end of March 2025, their number increased by 1.8%, while their amount decreased by 3.3%. At the end of June 2025, deposits exceeding BGN 1 million held the biggest share (89.5%) in the total amount of deposits.

Deposits of households and non-profit institutions serving households reached 9.016 million, reflecting a 1.1% annual increase. Their total value rose by 11.2% year-on-year to BGN 93.149 billion. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of these deposits grew by 0.3%, while their total value increased by 2.5%. At the end of June, deposits ranging from BGN 50,000 to BGN 100,000 held the largest share, representing 19.3% of the total amount.
