Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 11,426 young people under the age of 29 started work on the primary labour market with the support of the National Employment Agency, the Labour and Social Policy Ministry said on Thursday. In July alone, 1,397 new hires were made, 672 aged 24 or younger.
Data for the same month show a slight increase in the number of unemployed young people aged 24 or younger, reaching 10,070, or 6.7% of all unemployed people. The largest share, over 54%, are young people with secondary education. Those with higher education increased by over 58% compared to June, although they remain a relatively small share, 4.8%, of all young unemployed people.
Over two-thirds of unemployed young people under the age of 24 have no specialization or qualifications, which limits their opportunities for employment, according to the Labour Ministry. At the same time, a positive sign is that nearly 70% of the unemployed have been registered for up to 4 months, which suggests activity and potential for rapid integration with appropriate support.
On June 24, the agency launched a new project, Youth Internships, which provides paid internships and permanent jobs for 10,000 young people aged 16 to 29 who are looking for opportunities to work in their free time. The initiative is implemented with the financial support of the European Social Fund Plus through the Human Resources Development Programme 2021-2027 and aims to promote the labour integration of young people who are not engaged in work, education or training.
