The twelfth edition of the Danube Ultra cycling tour began in Vidin on Saturday morning. Around 140 participants from Bulgaria, Romania, and several other European countries set off from Bdintsi Square to cover the 740-kilometer route to Durankulak. The aim of the initiative is to promote the Danube region as an attractive destination for cycle tourism.
This year’s edition is held under the motto “The Flow of Time” and brings together veterans, amateurs, and more advanced cyclists. The fastest riders were the first to start, taking on the challenge of completing the distance in just 48 hours. Their progress can be followed in real time on an interactive GPS map.
Danube Ultra is organized with the support of the municipalities of Vidin, Oryahovo, Dolna Mitropoliya, Gulyantsi, Nikopol, Belene, Dve Mogili, Ruse, Tutrakan, Silistra, General Toshevo, and Shabla. The initiative is also backed by the Tourism Ministry, along with a number of partners and sponsors.
