site.btaSales of New Electric Cars in Bulgaria Decline by More than 5% in 2024


Bulgaria reported a slight decline in sales of new electric cars in 2024, shows data published on Wednesday by Eurostat. This year, 1,665 new electric cars were registered in Bulgaria, representing a decrease of 5.07% compared to 2023, when 1,754 electric vehicles were sold.
There has also been a decrease in the relative share of electric cars in relation to all newly registered cars in Bulgaria. In 2023, this share was 4.6%, and in 2024 it fell to 3.8%.
A similar trend is observed across the European Union. In 2024, 1.45 million new electric cars were registered in the EU, a decrease of 6.1 percent compared to the previous year (1.55 million). However, the total fleet of battery-powered electric vehicles continues to grow, reaching 5.87 million, an increase of 32.4% compared to 2023 (4.43 million).
The share of electric vehicles among all new registrations in the EU also declined slightly, from 14.6% in 2023 to 13.6% in 2024. By comparison, this share remained below 1% until 2018, but then grew rapidly: 5.3% in 2020, 9.0% in 2021, and 12.1% in 2022.
The highest share of electric vehicles among new registrations in 2024 was observed in Denmark (51.3%), Malta (37.7%), and Sweden (34.9%).
At the other end of the ranking were Croatia (1.8%), Slovakia (2.4%) and Poland (3.0%).
