site.btaBulgaria Second in EU for Bathing Water Quality, 189 Checks in Resorts, Beaches Carried out in June, Says Tourism Minister

Bulgaria ranks second in the EU for the quality of bathing water, according to the latest assessment of the European Environment Agency, Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh told journalists on Wednesday before the Council of Ministers sitting. In this important assessment, Bulgaria is ahead of Greece, Portugal, Italy and Spain and this fact should be noted, this is a joint effort of the institutions in the country, and the data completely corresponds to the data the Health Ministry has on the quality of bathing water, Borshosh added.
According to him this is “an important fact for Bulgarian tourism, and we should know it when we speak about the quality of the tourist product we offer.” In the past month, authorities carried out 189 inspections in resorts and beaches, which found 19 violations, for which acts were issued, Borshosh said. New inspections have been ordered to ascertain whether all recommendations have been implemented. “These figures show our immense commitment to offer a quality tourism product,” the Minister added.
An inspection is being carried out in Sunny Beach, and the findings will be presented locally, Borshosh said.
