The plenary sitting of Bulgaria’s National Assembly on Friday began with Q&A, in which caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova took questions from MPs regarding the 2025 State Budget Bill.

According to Petkova, the draft State Budget Act has funding for new municipal projects. Projects for Annex 3 of the budget bill (which lists the priority projects in the Municipal Investment Financing Programme), have been submitted by all municipalities and have been updated three times. First, there were road resurfacing projects but then those were replaced with water and sewage projects, thus delaying the implementation of the whole programme, she explained.

At the request of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works earlier in December, the municipalities were granted an additional BGN 100 million under this programme, Petkova recalled.

There is money available in the 2025 budget bill earmarked for unfinished projects. The allocation of funds does not follow the order in which the projects have been submitted, but the progress of their implementation stage, the caretaker Finance Minister added.
