Year-on-year, the gross domestic product (GDP) per employed person increased in real terms by 0.7%, according to preliminary data for the third quarter of 2025, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Friday.
There are 3,726,500 employed persons in the economy, and the total number of hours worked is 1,467.5 million. The structure of employment by economic sectors in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024 shows an increase in the relative share of the services sector and a decrease in the relative share of the agricultural and industrial sectors.
Each employed person accounts for BGN 16,814.6 of the GDP, with each employed person generating an average of BGN 42.7 of GDP per hour worked. Gross value added (GVA) per employed person in the third quarter of 2025 increased by 1.6% compared to the third quarter of 2024, while GVA per hour worked increased in real terms by 1.7%.
According to preliminary data, in the third quarter of 2025 the level of labor productivity in the services sector is BGN 14,864.1 of GVA per employed person and BGN 37.9 per hour worked. In the industrial sector, each employed person produces an average of BGN 16,629.7 of GVA, and an average of BGN 40.1 of the current volume of the indicator is generated per hour worked. The lowest labor productivity is in the agricultural sector — BGN 4,959.8 of GVA per employed person and BGN 13.6 per hour worked.
