site.btaBook in English Documenting 125 Years of BTA's News Writing to Be Press-Launched Oct. 15

A book in English, documenting the Bulgarian News Agency's news-writing operation during its first 125 years, will be press-launched at the BTA National Press Club in Sofia at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The 80th birthday of Panayot Denev, BTA Director General from 1997 to 2002, who wrote the preface to the book and adapted the Bulgarian text for a foreign readership, will also be marked during the event.
The English version of the publication, titled 125 Years Bulgarian News Agency. The Real News. Stories on File: 1989-2023, was produced by Lyubomir Gigov and was edited by Nikolay Zabov, who are managing editors at BTA's External News Service Directorate. Drawing on all BTA news since 1898, which are preserved in the agency's archives, the book presents one news story by text and a photograph from Bulgaria and one from the rest of the world for each year of BTA's 125-year history.
This is the fourth book to be published as a tie-in with the 125th anniversary of the release of BTA's first news bulletin, hand-written and signed by its first director, Oskar Iskender on February 16, 1898. Initially planned as a single-volume edition, the project expanded as more materials were collected, ultimately resulting in a three-part series in Bulgarian: Personal Stories; History of BTA 1898–2023; and 125 Years Bulgarian News Agency. The Real News. Stories on File: 1898-2023. All three volumes are available for download on the BTA website.
