site.btaEU Insists on Full Accountability for Russia’s Actions in Ukraine - Justice Commissioner McGrath
The EU maintains the view that Russia must bear full responsibility for the crimes committed in Ukraine, EU Commissioner for Justice Michael McGrath said on Tuesday at a press conference following the meeting of European justice ministers in Brussels.
This is fair for Ukraine and the Ukrainians, he added, responding to a question regarding the possibility of granting amnesty as part of a future peace agreement. Such an option was included in the initial 28-point peace plan presented in global media.
“We will continue working with international partners to establish a special tribunal for the crimes committed in Ukraine,” the Commissioner stated. “There must be justice and accountability,” he added.
Regarding further funding for Ukraine, McGrath said it is important for the EU to continue supporting the victims of the war in Ukraine. Earlier this week, the European Commission proposed two options for securing the necessary financing, and a decision from the European Council is expected next week.
