The role of alumni associations was discussed during the education panel at the second Bulgaria Across Five Oceans career forum at Inter Expo Center in Sofia on Saturday. The event is organized by the Bulgaria Wants You platform.
The discussion focused on the value of connections built during school and university years. Participants included Valya Nadova, President of the Alumni Association of the American University in Bulgaria, and Teodor Panayotov, Chair of the Alumni Association of the Electronic Systems Technological School (ESTS). The panel was moderated by Bulgaria Wants You Chief Operating Officer Valeria Djukic.
Panayotov said that the ESTS alumni association connects the school, students, and companies, helping to organize internships. He noted that many of the school’s teachers come directly from industry, bringing practical expertise into the classroom. He also highlighted that ESTS, which is affiliated with the Sofia Technical University, is expanding with a second building.
Nadova said that student activities and networks often support graduates’ future careers. Asked for advice on building alumni communities, she encouraged schools and universities to invest in them, while noting that success requires time and dedicated people.
Panayotov added that the ESTS alumni association was created to help address the school’s challenges and opportunities. He stressed that alumni leaders should be able to work with companies and understand their institution’s educational programs.
The event again brings together Bulgarians from the country and abroad, leading companies, visionaries and opinion leaders to present real opportunities for building a career and a life in Bulgaria, the platform told BTA earlier.
BTA is hosting its own booth at the career forum for the second year running. This year, BTA will spotlight BTA School, its internship and career development unit.
The media partners of Bulgaria Across Five Oceans are Nova Broadcasting Group, Darik Radio and BTA.
