A partnership agreement between the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) and the National Representation of Student Councils (NRSC) was signed on Friday at BTA’s National Press Club by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and NRSC Chairman Angel Stoykov.
Valchev noted that, on the eve of the December 8 student holiday, BTA has completed agreements with all 51 universities in Bulgaria. These agreements provide for regular, copyright-cleared information from the universities and internship opportunities at BTA.
He added that BTA has long covered NRSC’s work. Initially, it published only a few reports each year, but after launching the knowledge-and-culture section LIK in 2021, coverage has increased significantly - 79 materials last year and 86 so far this year. BTA’s archive also contains historic documents about the organization, including the first report about the creation of a National Student Council from March 4, 1997. Valchev presented the NRSC representatives with archival photos and a commemorative volume with the logos of NRSC and BTA.
Stoykov announced that NRSC will present BTA with a book marking its 25th anniversary. He praised BTA as NRSC’s most consistent media partner and stressed the need for Bulgarian media to report more on youth issues such as student scholarship increases, dormitory renovations, and educational challenges.
He stressed that NRSC is the only national student body authorized to represent university students and organizes major events, including the annual summer and winter universities.
NRSC representatives from Gabrovo Technical University, the University of Mining and Geology, and the National Sports Academy also attended, expressing confidence that the new agreement will help NRSC’s work reach more students.
Valchev noted that one in five BTA employees is currently a student and that Bulgaria has around 200,000 students.
Signing the agreement ahead of December 8, Valchev quoted St. Clement of Ohrid on the importance of each person finding and keeping their rightful place. He added that university education—and BTA’s mission through its reporting—helps people discover where they belong.
Valchev presented Stoykov with a commemorative medal and stamp marking BTA’s 125th anniversary, noting that the Agency is now 127 years old.
