Carnival parades and puppet theatre are part of the 6Fest Street Art Festival in Sofia, which runs until August 24, the organizers said.

On August 22, the glowing carnival puppets of 6Fest will parade under the theme “Fairy-Tale Animals”. Along the alleys of the City Garden and in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, a dragon, a bird, and a fish will come to life as if stepping out of a storybook. The three illuminated puppets are decorated with Bulgarian folklore motifs, and the inscription 6Fest on the dragon is written in the Glagolitic alphabet.

The second parade will take place on August 23 along Vitosha Boulevard’s pedestrian zone. Starting at the intersection with Alabin Street and heading toward Patriarch Evtimiy Boulevard, stilt performers and mascot characters will entertain the public, including five of Lewis Carroll’s whimsical heroes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – Alice, the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Card, and the Queen. The event will also feature Matrix Entertainment, a circus-theatre troupe from Novi Sad, Serbia.

On August 24, the festival continues in Geo Milev Park, around the monument to football legend Georgi Asparuhov-Gundi. The programme includes both daytime and night-time parades with three carnival puppets titled The Aliens, as well as a workshop on street and carnival arts designed for children and young people. The final event of the series will take place in Zapaden Park (West Park) on September 10.
