A Medal of Valor for his brave actions on the day of the 4th of July parade shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, was awarded to Bulgarian policeman David Bekov by the Bulgarian-American Police Association (B.A.P.A.) in the USA, the organisation wrote on social networks.

On that tragic day seven people died and forty-eight were injured.

"Officer Bekov was able to locate the shooter and share his location over the radio while he was administering first aid to a gunshot victim. Our compatriot worked tirelessly for 24 hours and the shooter was apprehended," the B.A.P.A. added.

Highland Park Police Chief Louis E. Jogmen personally presented the award to Bekov at an official ceremony.
