site.btaFreight Transport in Bulgaria Up 11.9% in Q4 2025, Y/Y
In the fourth quarter of 2025, the goods carried by land and water freight transport marked an increase of 11.9%, whereas the transport performance declined by 12.6% in comparison with the same quarter of 2024, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) on Thursday.
The number of passengers carried by passenger transport (land, water and urban electrical transport) rose by 23.3%. Meanwhile the transport performance dropped by 8.2%.
The goods carried by land transport in the fourth quarter of 2025 totalled 33 468.4 thousand tonnes, which was 14.6% up on the same quarter of 2024. National carriages increased by 34.4%, while the international ones fell by 18.9%. The transport performance was 12.8% more than in the same quarter of the previous year.
The goods carried by sea and inland waterway transport were 632,000 tonnes less than in the fourth quarter of 2024, due to the smaller volumes of goods carried by inland waterway transport. The transport performance, measured in tonne-kilometres, decreased by 4.2% on the same period of the previous year.
In the first quarter of 2025, goods carried by land and water freight transport increased by 5.8% year-on-year, while transport performance declined by 2.5% compared with the corresponding quarter of 2024. The number of passengers carried, as well as transport performance in passenger transport (land, water and urban electric transport), decreased by 1.7% and 19.1%, respectively, a reference in NSI data shows.
