site.btaRector of National Academy of Art: It Is a Pleasure Working with Professionals Like Bulgarian News Agency Team
"It is a pleasure to work with professionals such as those in the team of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA)," said Prof. Georgi Yankov, Rector of the National Academy of Art, at the presentation of the February issue of the LIK magazine, held at the Academy Gallery on Thursday.
The issue is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the establishment of the National Academy of Art.
"I would like to thank our partners at BTA for the magazine. We understand each other with half a word, deadlines are observed and everything runs smoothly. It is simply a pleasure to work in this way," Prof. Yankov said.
At the event, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev noted that "our generation is on the verge of leaving the Bulgarian capital without not only modern new buildings for a national library, concert hall, and museum, but also without a new, architecturally significant modern art gallery, the kind that other nations around the world are building".
According to him, by marking the 130th anniversary of the National Academy of Art - including through the February issue of LIK - BTA seeks to recall the example of Bulgaria’s forebears, who invested greatly in the country's spiritual and cultural development.
Prof. Yankov also commented on the political instability of recent years, noting that "it is difficult to implement projects when, over the past six years, we have been heading to elections for the eighth time - that is one and a half elections per year". Despite this, he said, the Academy had succeeded in convincing the state to allocate funding, and reconstruction of the so-called Northern Building of the Academy is currently underway.
The rector expressed special gratitude to Prof. Bozhidar Yonov "for initiating this reconstruction process," adding that 20 years later the Academy is now confidently moving forward and the project will be completed on time.
Earlier in the day, an exhibition by artist Alexander Denkov was also opened.
Since January 2024, LIK magazine has been freely accessible. All issues since its relaunch in 2022 can be downloaded in electronic format from BTA’s website. The February issue, titled 130 Years of Higher Education in Fine Arts, is available online in Bulgarian.
