Caretaker Regional Development and Public Works Minister Angelina Todorova-Boneva is on a working visit to Brussels at the invitation of the European Commission, the Ministry said here on Thursday. During her visit, Boneva will meet with Vice President of the European Commission Raffaele Fitto (Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms), to discuss the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and other issues of common interest.
Her programme also includes a working meeting with Sofia Alves, head of the European Commission's Administrative Capacity Building and Programme Implementation II (REGIO.E) directorate, in connection with the Regions in Growth Programme 2021-2027, including topics related to priorities and investment opportunities in regional development for the programming period after 2027.
The Minister will take part in the high-level conference on the EU’s eastern regions bordering Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. During the event, the European Commission will present the new EastInvest mechanism, which is expected to provide nearly EUR 28 billion in private and public investment in regions in Bulgaria and eight other countries on the EU’s eastern flank. Boneva has been mandated by the Council of Ministers to represent the government and to accelerate Bulgaria’s inclusion in the new mechanism so that the country can benefit to the greatest possible extent and within optimal timeframes from the new financial opportunities.
