Bulgarian biathlete Lora Hristova has been nominated for the Most Surprising Performance at the Milan Cortina Winter Games by the International Biathlon Union (IBU), the Union said on its website on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Hristova won a bronze medal in the 15-km individual start on February 11, she ranked 11th in the 7.5-km sprint on February 14, and she made progress with four more places in February 15 pursuit.
"Lora Hristova has not stepped on the podium once in her career, until now. The Bulgarian surprised everyone as she shot clean in the individual and took home the bronze medal. What is even more impressive is that she reached 11th place in the sprint and 7th in the pursuit, which are her career best," the IBU said.
The winner will be decided by a fan vote, which can be cast on the Biathlonworld website until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Hristova's competitors for the award include Czech athlete Tereza Vobornikova, Danish biathlete Anne de Beshe, and the Finnish men's relay team.
