The Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Big Band with conductor Antoni Donchev opens its 62nd season with a concert from the series "New European Music" on October 20 at the BNR building in Sofia.
The soloist will be the young German saxophonist, composer, and arranger Tobias Hoffmann.
Fans of contemporary jazz will have the pleasure to hear his award-winning original music arranged especially for the BNR Big Band, the radio said.
Tobias Hoffman is popular by leading European and world jazz orchestras and ensembles as an instrumentalist, improviser, provocative contemporary composer and arranger. He has worked with the Vienna Spittelberg JazzOrchestra, the Hamburg Big Band (NDR Big Band), the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, the Big Band of Slovenian Radio (RTV Big Band Slovenia).
He has worked with musicians such as Bob Mintzer, Joe Gallardo, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Paul Kuhn and Benny Golson.
His compositions have won awards at prestigious international jazz competitions and forums such as the International European Music Festival in Neerpelt, Belgium, and the Euroregio Big Band Contest in Enschede, the Netherlands. Hoffman's Nonet was awarded first prize in the Band category of the 2019 Made in New York Jazz Festival and Competition by a jury including Lenny White, Randy Brecker and Mike Stern.
