site.btaSyrian National Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for Sexual Crime

On charges brought by the Sofia District Prosecution Office, a 37-year-old Syrian national has been imprisoned for committing acts with the aim of satisfying sexual desire without intercourse and for taking a sum of money amounting to BGN 50, the prosecution service said Thursday. 

On September 6, 2023, at a public transport stop in Sofia, the defendant, D.L., committed acts to satisfy sexual desire without intercourse with C.K., 49, by forcing her to do so and undressing her. The defendant then took BGN 50 from C.K.

A pre-trial investigation was conducted into crimes under Article 150, paragraph 1, and Article 194, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code. During the investigation, expert examinations were carried out and witnesses were questioned, pointing to D.L. as the perpetrator of the acts.

The Sofia District Court found D.L. guilty of the charges against him and sentenced him to four years' imprisonment, to be served under strict conditions.

The sentence is subject to appeal before the Sofia City Court.
