site.btaEducation Minister: Everyone Can Be a National Awakener by Inspiring Children to Learn and Love Their Country

Education and Science Minister Krasimir Valchev said in his address marking the National Awakeners' Day that National Awakeners are not only figures of the past – everyone can be one by nurturing children in kindness, patriotism, and a love of learning, the Education Ministry said in a press release on Saturday.

Valchev paid tribute to Bulgaria’s writers, teachers, artists, and revolutionaries who preserved the nation’s identity and laid the foundations of modern Bulgaria. “They sowed the thirst for knowledge and elevated education as our highest value,” he said.

He noted that in times of major change and challenges, the country relies on its contemporary awakeners – teachers, academics, scientists, and people of culture – who shape Bulgaria’s future. “Your dedication determines whether our country will merely follow or lead in creating opportunities for progress,” the Minister said.

Valchev concluded by thanking all educators in classrooms, universities, and Bulgarian schools abroad for their mission to nurture the next generations. “Be worthy heirs of our predecessors and awakeners of our time. Happy National Awakeners' Day!” he said.
