There Is Such a People (TISP) Deputy Floor Leader Stanislav Balabanov said the current government will likely complete its full term, with all its shortcomings, the presence of constructive criticism, and ongoing efforts during an interview on Nova TV on Sunday.

Currently, a minority government comprising GERB-UDF, There Is Such a People (TISP), and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) is in office, Balabanov said in response to a question about the influence of MRF Chair Delyan Peevski in the government.

Balabanov added that he maintains his previous position: if TISP detects any involvement by Peevski in the government, the party will withdraw from power.

Balabanov noted that a minority government is naturally reaching out to all other parties for support, and it is encouraging that multiple parties are endorsing its legislative agenda, as the country needs progress.

When asked about Peevski’s claim that the government has survived because of him, Balabanov replied that the views of political leaders cannot be controlled. He noted that Peevski and other representatives are in the National Assembly because they have been elected. According to Balabanov, the composition of political forces has stayed mostly the same over the last five parliamentary elections.

Balabanov said that if Continue the Change (CC) and Democratic Bulgaria (DB) had agreed to join the cabinet, there would be no debate regarding other party leaders.

He said that CC, who position themselves as an alternative, simply rebrand a flawed product and promote political hypocrisy as a promise of change. “I honestly find [CC Chair] Assen Vassilev amusing. We should remember that he and [former CC Co-chair] Kiril Petkov used to exchange messages with Peevski and referred to him by a diminutive in a government they shared,” Balabanov added. He claims that CC-DB amended the Constitution in collaboration with Peevski.

A similar claim was made at the end of 2024 by Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov.

Balabanov also said the claim that the government would have survived the vote of no confidence without the support of TISP MPs is not true.
