A Bulgarian delegation led by President Rumen Radev arrived in Germany on Wednesday for a two-day visit. The delegation attended the official inauguration ceremony of a high-tech plant of the German defence company Rheinmetall in Unterluess, Lower Saxony.
In his speech at the opening of the facility, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger outlined the company's strategy to create a network of factories in a number of European countries, including Bulgaria. He described these factories as a part of a pan-European defence ecosystem.
Radev concurred with Papperger that the two factories that Rheinmetall is planning to build in Bulgaria will make the country a part of the European defence ecosystem. He expressed confidence that the new productions in Bulgaria are only the beginning of fruitful cooperation that will result in the production of motor vehicles, given the outdated vehicle fleet of the Bulgarian armed forces.
The Chair of the parliamentary Defence Committee Hristo Gadzhev told reporters in Germany that Bulgaria and Rheinmetall will equally share the investment in the upcoming construction of ammunition plants on Bulgarian territory.
