Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, head of the Fire Safety and Population Protection Directorate General, told BTA on Monday that the fire situation in the country is becoming more complicated. More than 200 fires were reported on Sunday, and conditions on both Saturday and Sunday were extremely challenging, he said.
"We had many fires yesterday. Most of them have been brought under control, localized, and extinguished," Dzhartov said.
Two Swedish planes and an Air Force helicopter will join firefighters in extinguishing the fire above the village of Ilindentsi, Southern Bulgaria, on the border with Greece, which reignited yesterday due to high temperatures and wind.
He added that work in the Sredets area, Burgas region, continues. The fire there has been localized, and the area is currently being secured.
The fire in Sungurlare, Southeastern Bulgaria, has not yet been localized. The work of the firefighting teams continues. A helicopter has been sent from the Novo Selo range, Southern Bulgaria, to assist the firefighters.
