Parliament will discuss on Wednesday at first reading amendments to the law on the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, according to the schedule of the National Assembly.

The draft law was submitted on Monday by the Council of Ministers and was approved Tuesday by the Budget and Finance Committee in Parliament.

The reasons that necessitate the adoption of the amendments are related to the need for further clarifications in the current law regarding the period and rules of dual marking of prices of goods and services, citizens’ awareness during the dual circulation period, measures to prevent unjustified price hikes in connection with the changeover to the euro, as well as the related powers of the control bodies and the effectiveness of the administrative punishment provisions, the Budget Committee report said.

The dual price marking period for goods and services in leva and euro is set to start on August 8 and end on December 31, 2026.
