At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet approved a draft agreement between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) concerning the privileges, immunities, and facilities granted to the Organization. The signing of the agreement, scheduled for the OECD Council’s annual ministerial meeting in Paris in June, is a necessary step toward Bulgaria’s accession to the OECD.

The agreement defines the status of the OECD, the immunity of its staff, the inviolability of its premises and vehicles, and outlines tax relief and legal protections equivalent to those granted to other international organizations operating in Bulgaria.

The agreement is subject to ratification by the National Assembly.

Once it enters into force, the current agreement will replace the agreement between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development on the privileges, immunities, and facilities granted to the Organization, signed on October 11, 1996.
