Two athletes from Ruse, Angel Rusev and Deniz Danev, will kick off Bulgaria's participation in the World Weightlifting Championships for men and women in Norway, the Ruse Weightlifting Sports Club announced Thursday.

The IWF 2025 World Championships will be held from October 2 to 11 in Forde, Norway. The new weight class system implemented by the International Weightlifting Federation that began in June 2025 comes into effect with the Men's 60 kg, 65 kg, and 71 kg, and the Women's 48 kg, 53 kg, 58 kg, and 63 kg categories.

The Bulgarian weightlifters from Ruse will compete among the world's best in the lightest category - 60 kg. Deniz Danev and Angel Rusev will compete on October 3, the club said.

Angel Rusev became European champion for the fifth time in his career after earning the overall gold medal in the men’s 55 kg category by lifting 246 kg at the European Weightlifting Championships in Chisinau in April.
