An earthquake shook Istanbul shortly before 3 PM Turkish (and Bulgarian) time on Thursday. It measured 5 points on the Richter scale and struck at a depth of 6.7 km under the Sea of Marmara near the municipality of Marmara Ereglisi, said Turkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

No one was reported injured in the jolt and no destruction of property was observed.

The quake was felt particularly strongly in the Asian part of the Turkish metropolis. It lasted just a few seconds but caused great panic, sending many people out into the streets.
