Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on Bulgaria's boder with Turkiye prevented the illegal transport of a total of EUR 5,879,856 over the course of 2025, the National Customs Agency's press centre reported.

The most recent case occurred on December 28, when officers discovered EUR 60,000 in undeclared cash in a truck with Turkish license plates at the checkpoint. The driver, a Turkish citizen, had told Bulgarian customs authorities that he was transporting goods from Western Europe through Bulgaria to Turkiye. The vehicle was diverted for a thorough inspection following a risk analysis conducted by customs control. The undeclared money was discovered in the pockets of the two seats in the truck’s cabin, the Agency’s press centre said. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecution Office.

The previous similar case of undeclared euro banknotes was reported on November 19, when EUR 39,950 in undeclared cash was discovered.
