Burgas Hospital is in a stable financial position, which allows for investment in new equipment and repairs in the departments, Hospital Director Prof. Vladimir Gonchev said on Wednesday. He stated that the next contract which the hospital will sign with the National Health Insurance Fund will include more clinical pathways and highly specialized activities.
Currently, the average salary for medical specialists at the hospital is about BGN 4,000, Gonchev noted, adding that staff stability is among the strengths of the hospital, with new medical specialists constantly being appointed.
Among the main priorities of the hospital's management are the modernization of the treatment base, the renewal of diagnostic equipment and the improvement of the qualifications of medical specialists. In this regard, the purchase of a second angiograph for the Vascular Surgery Clinic is planned, as well as repairs to improve living conditions in the wards, the hospital director pointed out.
Burgas Hospital develops active educational activities and is a strategic partner of Burgas State University, where future doctors and health specialists are trained, Gonchev emphasized, putting emphasis on the importance of the scientific and educational mission of the hospital, which contributes to the preparation of a new generation of medical personnel. He called on young doctors to be more active in their academic development.
Gonchev was elected Director of Burgas Hospital in October 2025. The election was scheduled after the former hospital director, Dr. Boyko Mirazchiyski, passed away in early July.
