As part of his visit to Thessaloniki for the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Theologia journal. Theology journal, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil conferred with Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens, who also arrived in Thessaloniki for the event, the Bulgarian Patriarchate reported.
"This contact between the Orthodox Churches is a source of hope for the entire Orthodox world, because we need communion in these troubled and uncertain times, faced with so many problems — wars, hunger, the deaths of so many children around the world," said Archbishop Ieronymos. He added that friendship and brotherly relations between the various Local Orthodox Churches must always be encouraged.
For his part, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil shared his joy in the visit and commended the excellent organization of the conference, as well as the warm hospitality of the hosts. He also briefed Archbishop Ieronymos about his meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and expressed hope that there would be more positive occasions to bring together the heads of the local Orthodox Churches.
His Holiness thanked Archbishop Ieronymos for the scholarships provided by the Greek Orthodox Church to students to study at theological schools of Greece.
Earlier Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is also in Thessaloniki.
