Twenty-two officials were arrested on Tuesday in a new corruption investigation involving Istanbul Municipality, including mid-level managers from the municipality and municipal enterprises, as well as employees responsible for overseeing public tenders. Among those arrested was Irfan Demet, director of the Municipal Enterprise for Electric Trams and Tunnels, Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber reported.

Demet is accused of manipulating tenders involving the municipality's asphalt company. Some members of the tender commissions are also among those detained.

The arrests followed police operations in Istanbul, Antalya, Canakkale, Trabzon, Bursa, and Giresun.

The investigation, led by the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office, is ongoing, with three individuals still being wanted.
