site.btaSerbia’s Minister of Education Urges University Rectors to End Faculty Blockades
Serbian Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stankovic called for the normalization of the situation at the universities and the restoration of academic life in an interview with RTS on Wednesday.
Stankovic emphasized that it is a moral duty of the university administrations and rectors to unblock the faculty buildings.
He said the ministry requires clarity on what it is funding regarding the operational costs of higher education institutions, making it essential for universities to operate at full capacity.
Stankovic pointed out that, even eight months after the start of the blockade of higher education institutions in the country, all faculties and colleges continue to operate and hold classes.
Stankovic reported that, following an agreement between Prime Minister Djuro Macut and the rectors of all Serbian universities, the government has approved enrollment quotas for the upcoming academic year. As a result, it is essential that the current academic year be concluded by November 1.
