Representatives of the Bulgarian community in North Macedonia met with the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi in Brussels on Wednesday. The community stated their desire for a dialogue with the authorities in North Macedonia and the EU's assistance in implementing such a dialogue, Petar Kolev from Prilep, North Macedonia, told BTA.
"We expressed our expectation the country [of North Macedonia] to become a member of the EU, but not at the expense of the Bulgarians in the Republic of North Macedonia," Kolev said.
The meeting was also attended by Georgi Trendafilov of Veles, North Macedonia, and the Chair of the Ivan Mihailov Cultural Club in Bitola, Ljupco Georgievski.
Varhelyi agreed to the meeting after the King Boris III club in Ohrid was attacked with a firearm in late November of 2022.
