Greek Deputy Interior Minister Gkioulekas: Greece Wants to Advance Cooperation with Bulgaria

Addressing a Sofia forum on Monday, Konstantinos Gkioulekas, Deputy Minister of the Interior for Macedonia and Thrace, said that Greece wants to advance cooperation with Bulgaria. The forum was attended by representatives of manufacturing and business organizations, ports, local government authorities, universities, and enterprises from both countries.

The forum is part of a visit to Sofia by the Greek delegation led by Gkioulekas, focused on bilateral and regional cooperation.

According to Ghioulekas, the intensive exchange between citizens of the two countries, including travel and education for young people, is "a bridge of friendship and cooperation" that should be further strengthened.

He stressed the importance of cooperation both at the bilateral level and in the context of the development of Northern Greece. Due to the high level of relations between Sofia and Athens, Gkioulekas addressed the Bulgarian participants at the forum as “friends,” noting that it is with a spirit of friendship and good neighborliness that the Greek delegation has come to Bulgaria.

The Greek Deputy MInister of Interior highlighted the numerous cooperation agreements signed between the two countries and pointed to the energy sector as one of the key areas of interaction. According to him, there are also several other sectors with potential for expanding the partnership, which is reflected in the broad profile of the representatives in the Greek delegation.

Gkioulekas conveyed greetings from the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and said that the government in Athens anticipates a deepening of cooperation and concrete steps in this direction.

A delegation of Greek local-government politicians, business executives and academics is visiting  Sofia on February 16 and 17. Sofia is the first stopover of the Greek delegation's tour of several Balkan countries, which will further take them to Belgrade and Bucharest.
