site.btaParliamentary Elections in Kosovo: Polling Day Proceeds Calmly, Turnout over 18% by 2pm
Snap parliamentary elections in Kosovo were proceeding calmly on Sunday, with voter turnout reaching 18.35% by 2 pm local time, according to the Central Election Commission, cited by Koha Ditore. Polls are open until 7 pm.
Polling stations opened at 7 am. Cafes were closed and empty in the morning, an unusual sight in the capital. Turnout was steady in central Pristina, where queues formed at some locations due to limited voting booths. Voting is organized alphabetically by the first letter of voters' surnames, and voters are required to present ID and undergo an ink check to prevent multiple voting.
At one Pristina school, pupils had handwritten all possible Albanian syllables under which voters' surnames were listed.
These are the second parliamentary elections in 2025. The February 9 elections resulted in an institutional and political deadlock, leaving the country without a government. The election campaign for the snap vote began on December 17 and ended on December 27, as Election Day itself serves as a day of reflection.
