On June 18, 2005, a big ceremony marked the opening of the renovated building of Youth Theatre in Sofia.

Youth Theatre in Sofia was founded in 1945 in the building of the old Balkan Cinema on Knyaz Alexander Dondukov Boulevard, central Sofia. The first play staged in the new Youth Theatre was Puss in Boots. Shortly after, part of the building burned down in a fire. Since then, the theatre changed many locations while raising funds for the restoration of its building.

In 2005, the theatre finally found its way back to Dondukov Boulevard in Sofia, this time in a newly renovated building, where it stays to this day.

In 2006, Youth Theatre in Sofia was given the name Nikolai Binev, after prominent Bulgarian actor who spent his career in the theatre. He played in more than 100 productions.

In its June 18, 2005 Media Review, BTA’s English Service reported:

"Youth Theatre Has Home - At Last" is the subject of "Troud". The Culture Ministry has invested a total of BGN 8.2 million in the reconstruction, expansion and upgrading of the theatre house in recent years. The curtain will be raised symbolically with a performance of child companies.
