Vice President Iliana Iotova told journalists on Saturday that the government will remain in office as long as MRF Chair and MRF–New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski decides.

Iotova was responding to a question about the government’s stability following the failed third motion of no confidence and the prospects for another motion, while attending a ceremony marking the 146th anniversary of the Ministry of Interior at the Unknown Soldier Monument in Sofia.

“As for the stability of the government, I think that yesterday produced one piece of news that might be the most important result from everything: it is not about what the coalition decides, or what the mandate-holding party decides. The stability of Boyko Borissov’s government, led by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, relies on the support of a fourth political party. What many had been discussing behind closed doors and in whispers was spoken aloud yesterday: there will be a government for as long as Peevski says,” Iotova said.

Asked about the budget and its revenue performance, Iotova commented that she had not heard any reassuring or convincing answer from Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova.

On Friday, following the failed third no-confidence vote against the Zhelyazkov Cabinet, MRF Chair and MRF–New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski told journalists that parliamentary elections will only be held at the end of the four-year term, urging MPs to focus on their work. A fourth motion of no confidence, this time over environmental policy, is scheduled for debate next week.
