Turkiye Plans to Invest USD 80 Bln in Solar, Wind Energy by 2035

Turkiye plans to invest USD 80 billion in solar and wind power by 2035, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced during a ceremony to launch renewable energy projects, broadcast live on social media accounts. He added that in 2025, such investments have amounted to USD 5.6 billion, bringing the total number of new power plants in 78 Turkish provinces to 7,110. 

"We attach great importance to the diversification of energy sources, increasing productivity and utilizing renewable energy sources. Currently, Turkiye ranks fifth in Europe in this indicator and eleventh in the world. We are making efforts through the National Energy Plan of Turkiye for the 2020-2035vperiod to bring the country to even more advanced positions. It envisages that solar and wind energy, which reached 40,000 MW in 2025, will increase to a capacity of 120,000 MW in 2035. In order to achieve this goal, we will make investments of USD 80 billion," said Erdogan.

The Turkish President presented data on the country's economic growth in the context of increasing energy consumption. According to the data, over the past 20 years, energy consumption has doubled, while the economy has grown by 5.3%.

"The Turkish economy is the sixteenth largest in the world and the sixth in Europe. At the same time, over the last 23 years, we have recorded a growth of 5.3%. On Monday, data for the first quarter of 2026 were also announced, showing that growth was about 2.5% compared to the same period in 2025," Erdogan said.

Erdogan also highlighted Turkiye's key role in ensuring the continuity of energy supplies in the context of regional conflicts such as the war between Russia and Ukraine and the war between Iran and the US and Israel, which led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
