The name of the new secretary general of the Interior Ministry will become known once the president signs the decree for his appointment, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov told journalists on Friday in Elhovo, Southeastern Bulgaria.

“The prime minister made it clear that we started the procedure, first verbally, which is how the procedure goes, and then officially, in writing,” the minister added.

Mitov and Austria's Federal Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner attended on Friday the opening of a newly built sensor line at border pyramid 231, in the area of the village of Golyam Dervent.

At the end of January, Minister Karner sent 15 Austrian police officers to the Bulgarian-Turkish border. A total of 100 border guards from Bulgaria, Austria, Romania, and Hungary are in charge of protecting the nearly 260-kilometre long EU external border with Turkiye. The aim is to curb illegal migration.
