Minister of Labour and Social Policy Ivanka Shalapatova held bilateral meetings with her ministerial colleagues from Portugal, Germany, Austria and Belgium in the framework of the informal Employment and Social Policy Council, which is taking place in Madrid, Spain between July 13 and 14. During the talks, topics of mutual interest were discussed, as well as opportunities to deepen bilateral relations and exchange experiences and best practices in the field of labour and social policy.

Special attention was paid to the implementation of the European Child Guarantee, child protection policies and early childhood development services, overcoming child poverty and the risk of social exclusion. Topics related to ensuring fair mobility, protection of mobile workers were also discussed. Opportunities to improve the adequacy and stability of the pension system and the promotion of social dialogue were also discussed, together with the priorities of the forthcoming Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2024.
