Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO) Vice President Margarita Nikolova said she was ready to serve as caretaker prime minister. “I will fulfil my constitutional duties,“ she told reporters on Friday after meeting with President Iliana Iotova as part of the constitutional procedure for appointing a caretaker government.
Nikolova said she had held a “very meaningful and in-depth“ conversation with the head of State.
Asked if she could form a government quickly, Nikolova said: “I have proven that I can create effective teams and do not shy away from difficult decisions. I am well familiar with the work of the administration in detail because I have been part of it for many years,“ expressing belief that this experience will help her do the job effectively.
“It is difficult to say whether someone has experience in organizing fair elections when they have never done so before. However, I have the ability to put together a good team and organize work efficiently, and I believe this will help address these challenges,” she noted.
Nikolova is the fourth official to express willingness to take on the post of caretaker prime minister, alongside Bulgarian National Bank Deputy Governor Andrey Gurov, BNAO President Dimitar Glavchev, and Deputy Ombudsman Maria Filipova.
