site.btaWholesale Prices of Most Vegetables Increase as Fruit Prices Drop over Past Week
The prices of most vegetables at Bulgarian wholesale markets continue the upward trend this week, while fruit prices are falling, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.
The market index for wholesale food prices in this country increased by 0.16% to 2.463 points over the past week. Last week, it stood at 2.459 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
In the vegetables category, peppers saw the biggest increase, with green peppers rising by 42.33% to EUR 2.30 per kilogram, and red peppers increasing by 24.47% to EUR 2.34/kg. Zucchini also saw a notable rise of 28.87% to EUR 2.25/kg. Other vegetables with higher prices include cabbage, up by 12.2% to EUR 0.46/kg, carrots, up by 3.45% to EUR 0.60/kg, and cucumbers, up by 2.46% to EUR 2.33/kg.
Cheaper this week are mature onions, down by 6.75% to EUR 0.47/kg, potatoes, down by 6.25% to EUR 0.48/kg and tomatoes, down by 2.99% to EUR 1.88/kg.
Only cabbage and carrots became, depreciating by 3.76% to EUR 0.41/kg and by 1.38% to EUR 0.57/kg, respectively.
In the fruit category, prices increased only for lemons, up by 0.74% to EUR 1.63/kg. Apples saw the largest drop, down 5.81% to EUR 1.07/kg, followed by oranges, which fell 5.27% to EUR 1.15/kg. Bananas and tangerines depreciated by 1.11% and 1.65% respectively, to EUR 1.43/kg and EUR 1.31/kg.
The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk rose by 2.15% to EUR 6.17/kg, and that of Vitosha-type yellow kashkaval cheese increased by 1.35% to EUR 9.64/kg. Yogurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) was cheaper this week by 1.71%, sold at EUR 0.69 per 400 grams, so was the price of milk, by 1.29%, down to EUR 1.22 per litre. Butter from cow's milk increased by 4.48% to EUR 1.68 per pack of 125 grams.
The price of frozen poultry is down by 0.73% to EUR 3.52/kg, eggs (size M) by 3.67% are traded at EUR 0.21 per piece wholesale.
Rice fell 0.48% to EUR 1.65/kg, and sunflower oil dropped 3.87% to EUR 1.64/l. Flour (type 500) increased 3.75% to EUR 0.83/kg, and sugar rose 1.75% to EUR 0.93/kg. A price increase was seen for mature beans, up 0.28% to EUR 2.16/kg, while lentils, are down 0.1% to EUR 2.10/kg.
