Rumen Hristov, leader of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) and GERB-UDF MP, commented on the first interview given by Rumen Radev, President of Bulgaria from 2017 to 2026, after his resignation as head of State. "We are unequivocally working to finish first. We have achieved this many times before, we are mobilized, and we are firmly focused on that goal," Hristov said, speaking on Bulgarian National Television.
According to him, no party can realistically secure 121 seats in the next parliament, and that notion has clearly been overestimated. GERB-UDF is working to become the leading political force in the upcoming early parliamentary elections, he said.
Hristov described Radev’s interview as marked by evasive answers, a lack of answers, and incomplete answers. In his view, it is evident that social states are wealthy states, because "you can redistribute only when you have something to redistribute." From that perspective, the idea of accelerated economic growth and political consensus in that direction is a good one, he said.
As leader of the UDF, Hristov also expressed the view that efforts should be made to double Bulgaria’s gross domestic product within a single parliamentary term, arguing that this is achievable and the only way for the country to catch up with those ahead.
