The choice of a caretaker prime minister is up to the President, but the logical option from the standpoint of ensuring fair elections is most likely Andrey Gurov, Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Ivaylo Mirchev told reporters on Sunday.

Mirchev was speaking at a commemoration event honouring the victims of the communist regime at the Memorial to the Victims of Communism, located next to the Bulgarian Martyrs’ Temple near the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.

According to Mirchev, Bulgarian National Bank Deputy Governor Andrey Gurov is the only person who has no dependencies or ties to MRF-New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski. “Based on what we have seen over the past few days from the potential candidates [for caretaker prime minister], it is very hard for me to believe that there are others who are truly distant from Peevski,” Mirchev said.

He added that CC-DB’s task is to unite the people who took part in the mass protests at the end of 2025 and secure their support. “We have a very clear programme that has not changed over the past eight years,” Mirchev said.
