At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers adopted a decision to table to the National Assembly a proposal for approval of an investment expenditure project titled “Acquisition of Coastal Anti-Ship Missile Systems” for the Bulgarian Navy.

According to the press release from the Government Information Service, the acquisition of new long-range coastal anti-ship missile systems will expand the range of missions performed by the Navy at both national and multinational level. This will generate new deterrence and defence capabilities in Bulgaria’s maritime spaces and help ensure the country’s maritime sovereignty.

At the same time, the project will create conditions for meeting NATO requirements for operational and technological interoperability and for increasing the Navy’s contribution to the country’s collective defence, the Cabinet’s statement further said.
