The leaders of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) and Christopher Smith, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Eastern Europe and Policy and Regional Affairs, discussed the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the US, the Yes, Bulgaria press service reported on Wednesday.
CC-DB said that they value the long-term cooperation with their partners and insist on openness regarding strategic priorities and risks. The coalition also raised the issue of systemic risks facing Bulgaria arising from what they described as the illegitimate exercise of power by MRF - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski. Peevski has been sanctioned under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act for being involved in corrupt acts that undermine the rule of law.
On Tuesday, Smith also met with President Rumen Radev, GERB Chair Boyko Borissov, and took part in the third session of the Strategic Dialogue between Bulgaria and the US that was held at the Council of Ministers.
