site.btaEuropean Chief Prosecutor Kovesi Arrives on Official Visit to Sofia, Meets Justice Minister

European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kovesi arrived on an official visit to Sofia, the Justice Ministry said on Wednesday. The reason for the visit is the opening of an standalone office of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in the country.

She met with Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev with whom she discussed cooperation between the Bulgarian judicial authorities and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. Kovesi and Georgiev also discussed legislative amendments related to the investigation of crimes affecting the financial interests of the European Union, and expressed their mutual appreciation for the fruitful cooperation, the Ministry added.

Georgiev informed Kovesi about the ongoing procedure for the selection of a European delegated prosecutor from Bulgaria. The procedure is currently at the stage of submitting application documents by candidates.
