site.btabTV CEO: European Media Freedom Act Key to Transparency, Trust, and Independent Journalism
Freedom of speech is a fundamental value that must be defended every day, said Gospodin Yovchev, CEO of bTV Media Group Ltd. He was speaking here Tuesday at the opening of a conference titled "The European Media Freedom Act – a framework for independence and pluralism in the European Union" and organized by the Council for Electronic Media (CEM).
"High standards for protecting media independence, ownership transparency, and guaranteeing pluralism are linked to the messages we convey as media professionals – that freedom of speech is a fundamental value that must be defended daily. As a media outlet, we are called to uphold this value with professionalism, consistency, and courage," Yovchev noted.
"The private media sector plays a significant role in ensuring pluralism, as it serves as a natural and logical counterbalance to power, economic interests, and public processes. Through partnerships and ongoing dialogue, such as today’s meeting, we can strengthen the development of independent journalism in conditions of security, professionalism, and public trust,” Yovchev added.
"Media freedom is measured by trust – the most valuable asset a media organization can have. That is why the European Media Freedom Act is so important – it sets a direction toward greater transparency, protection, and stability for everyone working in media, and for all those who rely on it,” Gospodin Yovchev said.
