The European Commission said it is making EUR 3 million available for projects that aim to strengthen people's awareness and skills in navigating the media and online landscapes. The call for proposals, open until March 11, 2026, is part of the Creative Europe Programme, the press release said.
Projects should aim to build societal resilience against disinformation and information manipulation. These projects must be innovative, can work both online or offline, should make media literacy more engaging and should help media literacy professionals adapt to new formats and consumption trends.
Citizens' ability to critically assess the content they interact with and make well-informed decisions is crucial to curbing the spread of disinformation.
Building societal resilience, supporting media literacy and independent journalism is part of the wider Commission's effort to empower Europeans to make informed decisions and to participate actively in democratic processes, the press release said.
Last year, the European Commission provided EUR 16 million in grants to news media organizations and journalistic projects aimed at developing a rapid-response system and monitoring violations of media freedom. The funding was also directed towards cross-border initiatives to enhance Europeans' skills in media literacy.
