Bulgaria’s National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova held a series of bilateral meetings during the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva, the Bulgarian Parliament said in a press release on Wednesday.
In her meeting with Amir Ohana, Speaker of the Knesset of Israel, Kiselova emphasized that Israel is a key partner for Bulgaria not only in the Middle East region but also globally. She voiced confidence that, despite ongoing geopolitical turbulence, the high level of cooperation between the two nations will continue to thrive. Kiselova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s firm commitment to contributing to peace, security, and stability in the Middle East.
During talks with Richard Rasi, Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia, both sides voiced satisfaction with the excellent diplomatic relations between the two countries and the strong ties between their peoples. The two parliamentary leaders pledged to foster even more active inter-parliamentary dialogue in support of shared European values – democracy, freedom, and equality before the law.
Kiselova also held a meeting with Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. She reiterated Bulgaria’s aspiration to conclude the post-monitoring procedure and expressed hope that member states of the Council of Europe would support such a decision in the near future.
Albanian Parliament Speaker Elisa Spiropali conveyed her gratitude for the significance Bulgaria places on the European integration of the Western Balkans. Kiselova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s readiness to support every country in the region that seeks full membership in the European Union.
The Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the United Nations, and the Parliament of the Swiss Confederation, brought together delegates from more than 100 national parliaments. Among the keynote speakers was UN Messenger of Peace and renowned actor Michael Douglas.
Earlier in the day, Kiselova conferred with Fayzali Idizoda, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan.
